I have learned to keep things as simple as possible even if you have complex needs; always start simple, get the basics in place, and then build on it.
Can you do web development yourself? Sure you can, if you are just starting the journey I recommend you start here: w3schools
Do you have a domain name? If not I recommend you start here: GoDaddy
If you are starting out I recommend you download an editor, for example: Notepad++
Can you do web development yourself? Sure you can, but why? These days it is too easy to get help.

Honestly, there are so many websites today that the easiest way to get started is for you to find the one, two or three that best show what you have in mind, let’s start there.
Our first conversation can go something like:
This website is very close to what I want.
I have picked out different colors for my website.
I have my own logo.
I do not have a domain name yet, I need help on what is available, and how to purchase.
I want help to get it all started, but I want to do the maintenance myself, or would like to discuss this.
I have some photos picked out I want to use.
At the end I need my website to have this, and this and this. Then my website will be complete.
A short conversation like the one above can go a long way to get things started. We need to know the basic idea to get started and we need to understand what ‘we are done’ means.
Complex web applications can be developed but this may move beyond what you would ever want to maintain yourself.
Another good approach is to find a website templates you like. There are many options, I like to recommend: BootStrapMade . On the BootStrapMade site you can try the basic template and get an idea of what you want for your website.
